Yahoo! kicks off treasure hunt ahead of the new yahoo.com.my launch.

It won’t be official until next year but the site is live and Yahoo! wants young Malaysians to explore what’s in store at yahoo.com.my with a treasure hunt called Youreka!

How it works is pretty simple. Hidden in all the Yahoo! services – the News page at http://yahoo.com.my, Yahoo! Messenger and Yahoo! Mail are tickets in either red, blue or green. If you hunt enough to be one of the top hunters you can then hunt for the purple ticket. Once you find a ticket, click on it and login with your Yahoo! ID. If you don’t have one, you can register for it. Successful hunters have a chance at winning adidas accessories, blockbuster movie screenings, BlackBerry® Curve™ 8520 smartphones, customizable mi adidas Supernova Sequence and Microbounce shoes, and exclusive passes to the YOUREKA! Finale party on November 25. One lucky hunter will walk away with a Digital Entertainment suite. You can find out more at the Youreka! microsite in http://yahoo.com.my.

Yahoo is still alive! I assumed they are so down the pecking order for search engines that they would give up soon. :P

I think Yahoo! is moving away from that search label because they will be serving Bing search results soon. So what is Yahoo! going to stand for? I think their email and messenger service is still pretty good though I haven't see any major improvements and I find myself using gmail more and more. I prefer YM over MSN and I'm not a fan of gtalk. But once google wave opens to everyone, I think all my current IMs will be obsolete.

In terms of search engines, the thing to watch is semantic search engines (next gen search) like Wolfram Alpha which I think will blow all current search engines out of the water. Adoption is slow probably due to the long time it takes for your results to return. Until then, I am liking the new Google Social Search and facebook search. Twitter search would have been great if it searches beyond 10 days.

Well, I prefer Gmail myself. And I use YM a lot and find it to be extremely annoying especially when you have group conversations. People drop out and sometimes you get double entries and well, its quite messed up. My group actually refer it as spooty.

I prefer MSN over YM. And I have tried Google Wave, and based on what I have used, I don't think it will replace any of my IMs soon. Unless they start developing a non-browser-based app for it.

I use YM for business chats and that's something I can't do with gtalk which is only 1 to 1 talk for me although I know some folks have been able to set up gtalk conferences which I've been in and see the same problems you experienced from using YM.

I love Google Wave not because of what it is now (still in beta) but it's potential to do amazing things.
